Specialty Lines Insurance Broker

The ideal candidate for this job will join the DeCotis commercial lines team and report directly to the Director of Commercial Lines. The person in this position is directly responsible for new business production, managing agency relationships, and overseeing high-value renewals in collaboration with our agency partners. The primary responsibilities are to drive commercial, professional, and specialty lines business with new and existing accounts, build strong relationships with agents, and strengthen the reputation of DeCotis Specialty Insurance in the market as the go-to resource for specialty insurance.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Main Job Responsibilities
  • Achieve individual goals for assigned new and existing agents. This includes ensuring total written premium and policy counts meet our new business and renewal retention objectives.
  • Use understanding of the retail agent business model and our firms’ value statement to develop relationships with new and existing agents to help secure ongoing new business opportunities.
  • Manage a portfolio of renewal business alongside assigned brokerage account managers and underwriters, with a focus on retention and maximizing commission with our most valuable agent partners, including our own internal commercial lines binding authorities.
  • Execute the firm’s commercial lines strategy, including triaging submission flow, and maintain agency and carrier relationships to reach profit and growth goals.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Commercial Lines, other producers, customer service personnel, and leadership to help ensure the firm achieves its business goals.

  • Strong relationship builder who can cultivate business opportunities with existing and new retail agents and identify potential obstacles, assess risk, evaluate submissions, and find common ground for securing business.
  • Effective negotiator who can influence and persuade others. Able to overcome objections, anticipate concerns, and offer acceptable solutions.
  • Experienced industry professional with superior product knowledge (Property, GL, Umbrella, Professional, etc.) and the ability to execute cross-department sales.
  • Convincing speaker who can accurately describe the key differentiators that set DeCotis apart from our competitors, and who will positively represent the firm at meetings, tradeshows, and other in-person events.
  • Smart marketer who can generate leads through networking, referrals, and other business-to-business avenues such as LinkedIn, email marketing, and more.
  • Friendly and outgoing business professional who enjoys being on the road interacting face-to-face with agents.
  • Highly organized individual with superior time management skills.
  • Proactive collaborator who can achieve optimum business results in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Successful communicator who can effectively interact with the firm’s team and business partners, both in person and virtually.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The Ideal candidate will have:
  • A minimum of two years of insurance sales/production experience with a record of executing and producing results.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to prioritize and self-manage workload, maintaining specific service-level standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree and professional insurance designations (CPCU, ARM, AU) are a plus.
  • Prior experience in underwriting or business development for a carrier, MGA, or wholesaler is highly desired. Must have experience with a retail agency distribution model.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The annual base salary offered will be commensurate with work experience and the degree to which the candidate meets the criteria above. In addition to base salary, Specialty Lines Producers are paid via commission schedules based on their book’s revenue.
