Commercial Lines Account Manager Job Description

The Commercial Lines Account Manager is responsible for assisting the production team with the evaluation and management of commercial lines accounts. This position has delegated authority to perform many mission-critical and important tasks; we are seeking candidates who pride themselves on their trustworthiness, dependability, and commercial lines knowledge.
This is a hybrid role for a position in our Providence, RI, office, but fully remote can be considered.
Main Job Responsibilities
- Working collaboratively with a team of other producers, along with customer service personnel, underwriters, and management.
- Overseeing existing commercial accounts; evaluating, marketing, and placing groups of renewals each month.
- Partnering with underwriters to place small accounts that do not meet binding authority guidelines.
- Assisting producers with the evaluation, marketing, and placement of brokerage accounts.
- Reviewing and preparing submissions, quote comparisons, forms, and coverage reviews on behalf of producers.
- Assessing policy submissions (new and renewal), looking for gaps in coverage, and advising on additional protections.
- Maintaining proper documentation of customer contacts, inquiry responses, and account management–related communications.

- Manage large volumes of account support items regularly.
- Maintain renewal retention.
- Meet DeCotis’ Service Standards and turnaround time frames.
- Cross-market accounts for new lines of business.
- Develop strong agency relationships.
Skills & Experience
- At least 3–5 years of commercial lines account management experience.
- Sufficient commercial insurance product line expertise (Property, GL, Umbrella, Professional Liability, etc.).
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- High degree of personal organization and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize to meet service-level standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Negotiation skills that aim to overcome objections, anticipate concerns, and offer solutions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
Highly Desired (Not Required to Apply)
- Prior experience in underwriting or business development for a carrier, MGA, or wholesaler.
- Experience with a retail agency distribution model.
- Bachelor’s degree and/or professional designations (CPCU, ARM, AU).
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation is commensurate with work experience. DeCotis offers a bonus program based on performance and company profitability. Additional cross-selling commission bonuses can also be earned.
