Director of Commercial Lines

The ideal candidate for this job will join the DeCotis leadership team and report directly to the President and CEO of DeCotis. The
person in this position is directly responsible for managing commercial lines revenue and some individual new business
production. In this role, the individual will oversee commercial lines producers, manage key customer and carrier relationships,
and supervise high-value renewals for the firm. The primary responsibilities are to drive commercial, professional, and specialty
lines business, build strong relationships with existing and new accounts, and mentor and lead producers to help them achieve
production goals.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Main Job Responsibilities
  • Achieving department goals as outlined in the business plan for assigned producers, agents, and carriers through
    successful management and mentorship of the sales team. This includes ensuring total written premium and policy
    counts meet our new business and renewal retention objectives.
  • Using an understanding of the agents’ business model and our firms’ value and strategy, develop relationships with new
    and existing agents to help secure ongoing new business opportunities.
  • Executing the firm’s commercial lines strategy, including triaging submission flow, reviewing risks to ensure the firm uses
    its capacity wisely, and maintaining agency and carrier relationships to reach profit and growth goals.
  • Managing a small portfolio of renewal business for our top agents with the support of the Commercial Lines Account
    Managers and Underwriters.
  • Retaining and maximizing commission with our most valuable carrier partners, including our internal commercial lines
    binding authorities.
  • Collaborating with the leadership team monthly, reporting revenue, and helping to develop the yearly marketing and
    production plan for commercial lines and the firm.

    potential obstacles, assess risk, evaluate submissions, and find common ground for securing business opportunities.
  • Effective negotiator who can influence and persuade others. Able to overcome objections, anticipate concerns, and offer
    acceptable solutions.
  • Experienced industry professional with superior product knowledge (Property, GL, Umbrella, Professional, etc.).
  • Highly organized individual with superior time management skills.
  • Efficient problem-solver with the ability to multitask and prioritize under tight timeline constraints and in a fast-paced
    environment.
  • Proactive collaborator who can achieve optimum business results in a friendly and professional manner with a team of
    producers, underwriters, customer service personnel, management, accounting, etc.
  • Successful communicator who can effectively interact with the firm’s team and business partners, both in person and
    virtually.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The Ideal candidate will have
  • More than five years of insurance sales/production experience with a record of executing and producing results.
  • A minimum of three years of managing a sales team or group of production-oriented individuals.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), mobile devices, and phone software.
  • Ability to prioritize and self-manage workload, maintaining specific service-level standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree and professional insurance designations (CPCU, ARM, AU) are a plus.
  • Home state insurance broker’s license.
  • Prior experience in underwriting or business development for a carrier, MGA, or wholesaler is highly desired. Must have
    experience with a retail agency distribution model.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The annual base salary offered will be commensurate with work experience and the degree to which the candidate meets the
criteria above. In addition to base salary, the Director of Commercial Lines receives a bonus based on the total revenue of the
Commercial Lines Department.
